Whenever two men among the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) would meet, they would not part until one of them recited to the other Surah al-‘Asr until the end, and the other would bid him farewell with peace.
Narrated by Tabrani in al-Mu’jam al-Awsath, no. 5097
Grade: Sahih (authentic)
Reflections:
1. Every gathering will meet its parting, whether it be a formal meeting, a discussion, or just a simple chat.
2. Among the etiquette of parting ways is to recite Surah al-‘Asr and end it with salaam.
3. Imam as-Syafie said, “If the Quran were not sent down other than this Surah, it would be enough for mankind as it contains the whole of the Quran.”
As Muslims, we should practice reciting Surah al-‘Asr and tasbih kafarah as zikir/dhikr when parting ways.
