Du'a To Granted Guidance

From Abdullah (Abdullah bin Mas'ud) from the Prophet SAW that Rasulullah SAW used to pray: "O Allah! Indeed, I am asking you for guidance, piety, al-iffah (avoiding bad deeds) and sufficiency (not begging))."
(HR Muslim No: 2721)
Status: Sahih Hadith

Learnings:

1. Rasulullah SAW taught us to du'a to be granted guidance, to have the nature of piety, to be endowed with the nature of 'afaf (avoid bad deeds) and ghina (not begging).

2. Hidayah is guidance and guidance from Allah SWT.  No one gets guidance but only Allah SWT gives it.

3. Everyone needs to ask Allah SWT for guidance, to be guided to strengthen their faith, increase their righteous deeds and speech and good morals in facing various problems in the world and the hereafter.

4. If someone wants to be guided to become a good Muslim, pious, able to live this life well, safely, with a peaceful heart and avoid bad deeds, then ask only to Allah SWT, not to others.

5. Imam Nawawi in the Syarah Sahih Muslim: says, "Afaf means to stay away and refrain from things that are not allowed.  While al-ghina is a heart that always feels enough and does not need what is on the human side."

6. In conjunction with the arrival of the new year 2023 Masihi, let's du'a more with the du'a taught by the Prophet SAW:

*اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى*

O Allah!  Indeed, I ask you for guidance, piety, al-iffah (avoidance of bad deeds) and al-ghina (sufficiency and not begging)

The Prophet taught us to ask for 4 things in this prayer:
a.  Al-huda is guidance in knowledge and charity.
b.  Al-taqwa means always being alert and careful in order to carry out Allah's commands and avoid prohibitions.
c.  Al-afaf means staying away from forbidden things such as adultery and the like.
d.  Al-ghina, that is, being satisfied with what Allah has bestowed upon with the state of qonaah, always feeling enough when bestowed by Allah be it a little or a lot of wealth.

May Allah bless us with guidance that will guide us to become pious people and have the qualities that keep us away from what is unlawful and always be satisfied with the sustenance that is available.
