The Prayer That The Angels Say Amen To

Abi az-Zubayr reported from Safwan – who was the son of ‘Abdullah bin Safwan and had been married to Darda’ (the daughter of Abu Darda and Umm Darda) – who reported:

I came to Syam (Syria) and visited Abu Darda’s abode. He was not there, but Umm Darda was. She asked me, “Do you wish to go on the Hajj this year?” to which I replied in the affirmative.  She continued, “Supplicate to Allah for us, for the Prophet (ﷺ) said, ‘The prayer of a Muslim for his brother in his absence will be responded to. By that Muslim’s head is a commissioned angel who, every time he prays well for his fellow, will say, “Amen, and may the same be of you.”’”

Narrated in Sahih Muslim
Grade: sahih (authentic)

Reflections:
1. A Muslim should do good to others.

2. One of these good deeds is praying that they are blessed.

3. A Muslim’s prayer for his brother in Islam, without the latter knowing, will be answered.

4. A person who does as such, the designated angel above him will say, ‘Amen’ and pray the same for him, as narrated in a hadith similar to the one above:

Abu Darda’ narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “No Muslim prays for blessings upon his brother in his absence except that the angels say, ‘And the same be unto you.’”

Narrated in Sahih Muslim
Grade: sahih (authentic)

Let’s be steadfast in praying for our brethren in Palestine, Syria, Myanmar and wherever else they may face oppression. Let’s also pray that truth and justice prevail in this world and in our beloved country.
