Dedication To Parents

عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَى اللَّىُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ الوَالِدُ عَسْتُ البْوَابِ الْجَنَةِ فَآِعْ ذَلِكَ الْبَابَ َوْ احْفظْ 

From Abu Ad Darda he heard the Prophet SAW saying: "Old people are like the mediators of the gates of heaven, therefore place them or take good care of them."

(Sunan Ibnu Majah No: 3653)

Status: Sahih Hadith 

Learnings: 

1. Parents are like the gates of heaven for every child. 

2. It is the duty of children to do good and be devoted to their parents, then Allah will reward them in heaven. 

3. Al-Qadhi Baidhawi said: The best way to enter heaven, and the way to get a high rank in heaven is to obey parents and try to love and serve them. There are also scholars who say, 'There are many doors in heaven.  The most comfortable to enter is the middle one.  To be able to enter heaven through the middle door is to be devoted to the elderly.' (Tuhfatul Ahwadzi, 6/21). 

4. Children who are not devoted and good to their parents, will miss the opportunity to go to heaven. 

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَغِمَ أَنْفُهُ ثُمَّ رَغِمَ أَنْفُهُ ثُمَّ رَغِمَ أَنْفُهُ قِيلَ مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ مَنْ أَدْرَكَ وَالِدَيْهِ عِنْدَ الْكِبَرِ أَحَدَهُمَا أَوْ كِلَيْهِمَا ثُمَّ لَمْ يَدْخُلْ الْجَنَّةَ 

From Abu Hurairah he said;  The Prophet SAW said: "Woe to him! Woe to him! Woe to him!"  then he was asked;  "Who is the wretched one, O Messenger of Allah?"  Answered the Prophet SAW: "Whoever finds both his parents (in old age), or one of them, but he does not try to enter heaven (by trying to serve him as best he can)."  

(HR Muslim No: 4628) 

Status: Sahih 

Be devoted as much as possible to both parents whether they are alive or deceased (by praying for them).
