Giving Attention To The Ffiday Khutbah

Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Whosoever makes wudhu’ with thoroughness, then goes to the Friday prayer, then listens to the khutbah (sermon) in silence, his sins will be forgiven until the next Friday and three days past it. And whosoever fiddles with pebbles (in his hand), he has committed a purposeless act (i.e. an interruption).”

Narrated in Sahih Muslim
Grade: Sahih (authentic)

Reflections:
1. Those who go through the ordained routines in performing the Friday congregational prayer, including refraining from speech during the sermon, will have their lesser sins forgiven for the coming 10 days.

2. Members of the congregation are obliged to give their full attention during the Friday sermon. Fiddling with objects – handphones, pens and the like – negates the reward for attending the prayer.

Let’s make it a practise to focus during the Friday sermon and reap the reward of Allah’s forgiveness.
