The Prayer of The Oppressed

Narrated Ibn Abbas:

The Prophet (ﷺ) sent Muadh to Yemen and said, "Be afraid from the curse of the oppressed as there is no screen between his invocation and Allah."

Sahih Bukhari No: 2268

Grade: Sahih

Lessons:

1.  Each one of us are inheritors of the call of the prophets wherever we may be. It is our obligation to enjoin what is right and to forbid what is wrong.

2.  Rasulullah (pbuh) instructed Muaz, who was sent to be his representative in Yemen for doing da’wah  and governing the ummah.

3.  The instruction of Rasulullah (pbuh) was to not oppress others even if we are known to be knowledgeable and noble.

4.  Doing da’wah does not necessarily mean a person will not oppress others. For instance, one may be involved in dakwah but still slanders others (purposeully or otherwise), make personal attacks, jumps to conclusions based on hearsay and speculation, make biased, unobjective evaluations, etc.

5.  In doing da’wah and leading the ummah and community, we should be more sensitive of various ways we might be oppressing others.

6.  Let us not assume that even the slightest degree of oppression is acceptable towards evil-doers or non-Muslims.

7.  If a person has ever oppressed another, then verily there are no barriers or screens between the oppressed and ALLAH when he/she complains about his situation to Him.

Let us take special care to never oppress others in any form and even if only a little.
