Reviling Others, An Act of Shaytan

Narrated 'Iyad ibn Himar:

I said, 'O Messenger (ﷺ) of Allah, a man from my people insults me when he is without me. Do I incur any wrong action if I answer him back (to win from him)?' He (ﷺ) replied, 'Two men who revile one another are two shaytan who accuse one another (of wrong-doing) and lie to each other.'

Narrated in Sahih Ibn Hibban

Grade: sahih (authentic)

Reflections:

1.  One who is insulted and disgraced is reminded that he should be patient.

2.  The Prophet Rasulullah (ﷺ) mentions that two people in an argument that involves insults are indeed shaytan.

3.  Those who habitually in engage in verbal abuse will amass sins when they disparage and demean others and also are prone to telling lies.

May we not be considered as shaytan. Let’s avoid the sin of abusing and insulting others.
