Tortured In The Grave

عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ بَعْضِ حِيطَانِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَسَمِعَ صَوْتَ إِنْسَانَيْنِ يُعَذَّبَانِ فِي قُبُورِهِمَا فَقَالَ يُعَذَّبَانِ وَمَا يُعَذَّبَانِ فِي كَبِيرٍ وَإِنَّهُ لَكَبِيرٌ كَانَ أَحَدُهُمَا لَا يَسْتَتِرُ مِنْ الْبَوْلِ وَكَانَ الْآخَرُ يَمْشِي بِالنَّمِيمَةِ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِجَرِيدَةٍ فَكَسَرَهَا بِكِسْرَتَيْنِ أَوْ ثِنْتَيْنِ فَجَعَلَ كِسْرَةً فِي قَبْرِ هَذَا وَكِسْرَةً فِي قَبْرِ هَذَا فَقَالَ لَعَلَّهُ يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمَا مَا لَمْ يَيْبَسَا 

From Ibnu Abbas RA he said;  The Prophet (ﷺ) once passed by two graves, and those two persons (in the graves) were being tortured. He said, "They are being tortured not for a great thing (to avoid). One of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urine, while the other went about committing slander (to make enmity between friends). He then took a green leaf of a date-palm tree split it into two pieces and fixed one on each grave. The people said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Why have you done so?" He replied, "I hope that their punishment may be lessened till they (the leaf) become dry."

Status: Sahih Hadith 

Learnings:

1. Every Muslim needs to have good morals. 

2. There are people who are tortured in the grave due to their bad behavior while in the world. 

3. Two types of grave dwellers are tortured due to not washing urine (thoharah) and the offense of slandering (causing enmity). 

Be a purified person and always stay away from the act of slandering.
