Fortunate Is He Who Is Protected From Trials

Narrated Al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad:
I swear by Allah, I heard the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) say, “Happy is he who is protected from trials, happy is he who is protected from trials, happy is he who is protected from trials. But how fine is he who is afflicted and shows endurance.”

Narrated by Abu Daud
Grade: sahih (authentic)

Lessons:
1. A content person is one who is protected from hardship and trials (including favours of Allah that lead to heedlessness).

2. We are obligated to avoid all that which causes harm.

3. Content is the one who shows perseverance when tested by afflictions.

4. When tribulation befell in the time of the Tabi’een (those succeeding the Companions of the Prophet s.a.w.), Thalq ibn Habib was asked on how to overcome trials. He said, “Seek refuge from them with taqwa (consciousness of Allah)!”

He was asked in return, “Explain to us, what do you mean by that?”

He answered, “That you obey Allah upon a light from Him, hoping for His mercy. And that you abandon evil deeds upon a light from Him, fearing His punishment.”

Let us seek refuge in Allah from trials that nullify our deeds and let us always be patient with misfortunes that befall us.
