Three Things Follow The Deceased

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.) said, "When carried to his grave, a person is followed by three, two of which return (after his burial) and one which remains with him. His relatives, his possessions, and his deeds follow him; his relatives and his possessions return, while his deeds remain with him."

Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim

Grade: sahih (authentic)

Lessons:

1. When a son of Adam dies, what follows him are his relatives, his possessions, and his deeds.

2. After entering the grave, two that follow the deceased will return: his family members and relatives will go home, resuming life as usual. His wealth and property will be distributed among inheritors.

3. Only his deeds remain by his side. Blessed is the deceased if he had performed a multitude of virtuous deeds during his lifetime – the deeds will be his companion and aid in the grave.

Let us increase our good deeds while we are still in good shape and health, for it will be our provision in the Hereafter.
